Vacancy BikeFlip is looking for a teacher!

BikeFlip - Children grow, bikes do not!

For our Utrecht startup BikeFlip we are looking for a bicycle technician who has a passion for upcycling/refurbishing/repairing bicycles and who can take our social workshop to a higher level.

About BikeFlip:

Arranging a good children's bicycle can be quite a hassle, especially because children outgrow their bicycles every year and a half. BikeFlip offers a solution: a monthly subscription to a second-hand children's bicycle including repairs. This way, parents can exchange the bicycle when necessary and never have to visit the bicycle repair shop during working hours again.

The fact that the bicycles are second-hand is extremely important for our company. We believe that everyone can contribute to a circular economy and in this way we ensure that the bicycles can be reused for as long as possible. Does the bicycle no longer fit one child? Then we exchange it for a larger one and the smaller one can make another child happy again! This means fewer bicycles are thrown away and fewer bicycles are produced unnecessarily. This is important, especially considering that Dutch bicycle depots are currently packed with bicycles that are still of good quality. There is currently no structural solution, especially for children's bicycles. These are often bought by buyers who export the bicycles. With BikeFlip we have a more sustainable solution for these children's bicycles, by upcycling them back into society as a product-as-a-service! In this way, we offer a new life to forgotten second-hand (children's) bicycles from the bicycle depot, make children happy with a beautiful, refurbished and suitable bicycle, relieve parents of worries and contribute to a sustainable and circular (cycling) economy. After all, every bicycle not produced results in a CO2 reduction of 31.45 kg (Chen et al., 2020).

BikeFlip also actively offers its services as a solution for social organizations and municipalities that want to stimulate bicycle use among population groups that cycle less (due to poverty or cultural differences), in neighborhoods where the percentage of cyclists is (too) low (such as Utrecht Overvecht). Examples of current projects that we do for this group are with the organizations 'De Fietsmeesters' and 'Stichting Leergeld Utrecht'. Together we encourage sustainable cycling for everyone. We upcycle these bicycles with pride and passion for the craft in our social workshop! Here we create a place where we not only tinker with our circular dream, but also a safe haven where we guide people who are at a distance from the labor market into paid work in bicycle technology! We are therefore proud that we can provide this guidance as a recognized training company.
