Learning to ride a bike can be quite exciting at times. To reduce the tension, it is smart to use bike skills games. By working on your child's bike skills in a playful way, learning to ride a bike becomes a lot more fun!

These games are also ideal for children who can already ride a bike. They help to improve confidence and control on the bike. That is why we at BikeFlip have listed the most fun and educational bike skills games for you in this blog.

🐌 Slow Driving Competition

Want to work on balance? Then a slow cycling competition is the perfect exercise. And it's really easy to organize!

Draw a start and finish line with sidewalk chalk. The last child to cross the finish line without getting off wins!

🌀 Slalom

Slalom is ideal for learning to steer and turn confidently.

Draw a course with sidewalk chalk and let your child cycle along the path. Or use cones (or water bottles) to make it a bit more challenging. Line them up and let your child cycle between them. Make it a bit more difficult by making the distance between the cones smaller.

🐍 Snakes

This game is played with at least two people and is super fun and educational. With snakes you focus on driving on a line, which is a good skill if you want to drive in traffic with your child.

Have one child cycle a crazy, winding route. Another child follows the route and draws it on the ground with sidewalk chalk. Then the other tries to cycle the same route. A fun way to work on control and precision.

⛔ Emergency stop

Being able to make a good emergency stop is essential, especially in traffic. By making a competition out of it, your child can practice this in a playful way.

Draw a starting line and have the children cycle until someone shouts “STOP”. The one who can stop the fastest and shortest wins. This is not only fun, but also an important skill in traffic.

💧 Cycling with water

A really fun game that you can play with your child is cycling with water. The name says it all, challenge your child to cycle with a (half) full cup of water! The goal is for your child to work on his or her balance and therefore let as little water fall out of the cup as possible. A super fun way and it is extra fun on hot days!

Conclusion

Cycling skills games are a great way to teach children to ride a bike in a fun and relaxed way. They not only increase confidence on the bike, but also provide lots of fun and exercise. Whether your child is just starting to ride a bike or already has experience, there is always a game that suits their level.

So get out there, grab the sidewalk chalk, collect some cones, and make learning to ride a bike fun!
