Proper preparation for the Verkeersexamen is essential. That means two things: practicing the rules of the road and ensuring your bike is perfectly safe. With our checklist and tips, you'll be fully prepared.
Step 1: Practice for the Verkeersexamen
Practice for the Dutch Road Safety Association's Traffic Exam. The practice exams are exactly like the actual exam and are the best way to prepare.
Step 2: Check your bike with a checklist
Before the exam begins, your bicycle will be inspected. An approved bicycle must meet several requirements set by the Dutch Road Safety Association.
These are the 11 most important points for your bicycle:
Can you answer "yes" to all the questions below? Then this part of your bike is ready for the exam!
- The steering wheel: Is the steering wheel secured properly?
- The bell: Is the bell clearly audible?
- The handles: Are the handles securely fastened?
- The brakes: Do the brakes work powerfully and reliably?
- The brake pads: Aren't the brake pads worn out?
- The tires: Do the tires have sufficient tread and are they up to par?
- The spokes: Are all the spokes properly tightened?
- The pedals: Are the pedals rough for good grip?
- The saddle: Is the saddle securely fastened?
- The saddle height: Is the saddle adjusted correctly (with your toes touching the ground)
- The chain: Does the chain have the correct tension?
Is your bike not working properly on any of these 11 points? No problem! We're happy to help. Visit one of our stores or easily schedule a home repair.
Additional checks for the Dutch Road Safety Association's Traffic Exam:
In addition to the points mentioned above, the VVN also pays attention to the presence of reflectors. Please note that not all BikeFlip bikes are equipped with these reflectors as standard, and we currently do not offer them for sale separately. You are free to install them on your bike yourself.
- Rear reflector: Is there a red reflector at the rear?
- Wheel reflection: Are there white or yellow reflectors visible in the wheels or on the tires?
- Reflective pedals: Are there yellow reflectors on the pedals?
Tip: Easily check this checklist with our BikeFlip Checklist .
