BikeFlip aims for impact
At BikeFlip, we believe that success goes beyond just wheels and gears. That's why we are committed to making a positive impact on our community. We are proud to announce that as of November 7, 2024, we have been included in the Register of Social Enterprises.
The Social Enterprise Code is based on the fundamental principle of social entrepreneurship: impact first. The Code comprises 5 principles that together demonstrate what social entrepreneurship stands for. Read more about the Social Code here.
This page will highlight our ongoing social projects, because for BikeFlip, giving back is more than just a ride - it's in our DNA.
BikeFlip strives for impact
Impact over profit: every euro makes a difference 💚
At BikeFlip, our profit goes directly back into society. We have a special Impact Reserve, a pot that is completely dedicated to increasing our social and sustainable impact. So no, no profit for shareholders, but more opportunities for our employees and more bikes on the road! Half of our profit is put into this, so that we can continue to invest in impact. The rest goes to our general reserve, to keep BikeFlip running, even when the wind is against us and we have to pedal harder. See our Theory of Change here, where we substantiate our theory of change.
In addition, we closely monitor the impact we make. Are you curious about the change we have brought from 2022 to 2024? See our Impact Report 2022 - 2024 here.
Advisory Board: Our Critical Cheerleaders 📣
Behind the scenes we are supported by our Advisory Board, a group of dedicated minds who keep us sharp and advise us. They use their networks to grow BikeFlip, help us strategically move forward, and are always there to encourage us. Whether it is finding new sponsors or sharpening our goals or holding up a mirror to us – they are our support and confidante!
Cycling Forward Together: Bringing Stakeholders on Board 🚲
BikeFlip is not just for customers and employees, but also for everyone who contributes to our mission. Through periodic discussions, we maintain contact with our stakeholders – from customers and involved organisations to partners and the neighbourhood. All BikeFlip members are also asked to provide us with feedback at least once a year. This way, we stay on track and ensure that we include everyone in our adventure!
On money and ownership 🏛️
BikeFlip is entirely owned by its original founders, Paul and Casparis, who are committed to our mission every day. We finance our growth with our own resources, without external shareholders. Our management currently earns a minimum DGA salary, and our employees are paid according to the two-wheeler collective labour agreement (CAO). Annual reports can be found here.
A workshop of opportunities
At BikeFlip, it's not just about refurbishing bicycles, but also about how we do it. Our workshop is a place where bikes are seen as opportunities and where everyone's (undiscovered) talent counts. We take our social and societal responsibility seriously by providing an inclusive and social workplace for bike enthusiasts.
In this way, we give people who are distant from the labor market the chance to learn and integrate, and we offer a diverse group of people from different backgrounds the opportunity to progress to a great (paid) job. Together with a team of approximately 35 passionate individuals, we work every day on our sustainable mission.
